Final Workshop: Monitoring Innsbruck Campaign

The "Campagne-Areal" district, located in the eastern part of Innsbruck, is set to become a trailblazing smart city development. This ambitious project will encompass the construction of over 1,100 residential apartments and the establishment of comprehensive infrastructure. The primary objective of this initiative is to transform the area into a climate-friendly and socially sustainable "Zero Emission Urban Region". The initial two buildings have been constructed by NHT (NEUE HEIMAT TIROL) and IIG (Innsbrucker Immobilien Gesellschaft), have been handed over and are now occupied for a period of two years.

A comprehensive monitoring system was installed as part of the FFG-funded projects “Smart City Campagne-Areal Innsbruck” and “Monitoring Innsbruck Campagne”. Since 2022, data has been continuously recorded and evaluated by the University of Innsbruck's AB Energy Efficient Building team. In addition to energy monitoring of the heat supply to the site, this also includes heat meters in the distribution lines for heating and domestic hot water preparation as well as recording the domestic hot water preparation in one of the buildings on an apartment-by-apartment basis. This made it possible to carry out detailed analyses of heating requirements and hot water consumption. In addition, temperature sensors and humidity sensors in the apartments provided important information about thermal comfort and indoor air quality in the buildings. The data obtained formed the basis for a simulation study that identified optimization potential at system and operating level. The results of this study were discussed at the final workshop.

This took place on May 12, 2025 at the NHT with the project partners (UIBK, IIG, NHT, Stransky) and other stakeholders, including planners, building services engineers, manufacturers and representatives of housing associations. After three years of monitoring, the extensive analyses and their results were presented.
